Single Half-Arch Sawtooth Greenhouse

Single Half-Arch Sawtooth Greenhouse

Defined by its straight sloped roof and full-height vertical vent running from ridge to gutter. This full sawtooth opening delivers the largest ventilation area of any sawtooth type — hot air exhausts directly with no restriction — making it the most effective natural-ventilation sawtooth design for warm and hot climates. An evolved sawtooth design that replaces the straight roof slope with a single smooth arch. This curved roof distributes rain and snow loads more evenly across the frame, improving structural durability over a triangular sawtooth, while the half-height vertical vent maintains effective natural ventilation. A balanced, mid-range option — more robust than a straight-slope sawtooth, simpler than a double-arch design — well suited to medium-scale farms and regions with moderate snow and wind.

Product Overview — Curved Roof Strength, Balanced Performance

The PONSUNO Single Half-Arch Sawtooth Greenhouse advances the original triangular sawtooth design by replacing its straight roof slope with a single, smooth curved arch running from the top of the vertical vent wall down to the gutter. This single half-arch profile gives the greenhouse its name and its defining characteristic: a curved load-bearing surface that distributes rain, snow, and wind pressure more evenly than a straight plane. The result is a structure that is more durable under snow load than a triangular sawtooth, while remaining simpler and more compact than a double-arch sawtooth.
  • Structure & Materials. The load-bearing frame uses hot-dip galvanized steel with a 275g/m² zinc coating. Columns range from 50mm to 150mm diameter, sized by span and local loads. The roof arch is formed by bending steel pipe (typically 25–50mm diameter) to a single continuous curve — one end connects to the top of the vertical vent wall, the other to the gutter. Gutters are press-formed galvanized steel (1.5–2.5mm) running the full length between bays. The half sawtooth vent is operated by a rack-and-pinion or roll-film drive. All connections are bolted with galvanized hardware; no field welding required.
  • Structural Performance.—The Curved Roof Advantage. Unlike a straight-slope triangular sawtooth, where snow accumulates and load concentrates at the ridge and gutter, the curved arch roof distributes vertical loads across the entire arch profile. This reduces peak stress at any single connection point and allows the greenhouse to achieve a higher snow load rating (typically 0.25–0.35 kN/m²) than a triangular sawtooth of equivalent steel weight. The curved surface also sheds snow more readily — once snow begins to slide on the upper curve, gravity carries it the rest of the way down.
  • Ventilation. The vent is classified as a "half sawtooth" — it does not extend the full height to the ridge, as the curved arch occupies the upper portion of the bay. The vent opening runs from the shoulder or mid-wall up to the base of the arch. While the vent area is smaller than a full sawtooth (triangular) design, the curved roof profile helps guide rising warm air toward the vent opening, maintaining good natural ventilation performance. For most moderate climates, this delivers sufficient summer cooling without mechanical assistance.
  • Trade-Offs. Two limitations should be noted. First, the half sawtooth vent area is smaller than a full sawtooth, so in very hot climates the natural ventilation capacity may be lower than a triangular sawtooth of the same size. Second, the single-arch profile is less aerodynamic than a double-arch design, making it better suited to regions with moderate rather than extreme wind.
  • Covering & Integrated Systems. Roof covering is standard 150–200 micron PE/PO/EVA film (anti-fog, anti-drip, UV-stabilized), with polycarbonate available for greater insulation. Side walls are selectable: film, polycarbonate hollow sheet, color steel sandwich panel, or glass. The structure supports the full range of add-on systems — side ventilation, internal/external shading (30%–85%), heating, drip or spray fertigation, multi-zone environmental control, and supplemental lighting.
