Single Span Pinnacle Greenhouse
Single Span Pinnacle Greenhouse
A classic single-span greenhouse featuring a gable (peaked / double-slope) roof and vertical side walls — a structure often called a "pinnacle roof" for its sharp central ridge. Unlike an arched tunnel, the pinnacle design offers a rectangular interior with full headroom from wall to wall, making every square meter usable for tall crops, hanging equipment, and mechanized operations. The roof and walls accept film, polycarbonate, or glass covering, giving growers flexibility to match the envelope to their climate and crop. A timeless, versatile design for vegetables, flowers, seedlings, and research applications.

Product Overview — Classic Gable Form, Maximum Usable Space
The PONSUNO Single Span Pinnacle Greenhouse takes its name from the sharp central ridge — the "pinnacle" — formed where two sloped roof planes meet at the top. This gable (peaked / double-slope) roof, combined with vertical side walls, creates a rectangular interior cross-section that is fundamentally different from an arched tunnel. Where an arch curves downward at the edges, reducing usable height near the side walls, the pinnacle design maintains full eave-to-ridge headroom across the entire span. The result is a greenhouse where every square meter of floor area supports tall crops, overhead equipment, and upright worker movement — no wasted space at the perimeter.
- Structure & Materials. The load-bearing frame uses hot-dip galvanized steel with a 275g/m² zinc coating. Vertical columns (50–250mm diameter) support the side walls and carry the roof trusses at the eaves. The roof is framed with galvanized steel trusses — typically triangular or Warren truss configuration — spanning from eave to eave and meeting at the central ridge. Truss design is sized by span, bay spacing, and local snow/wind loads. A ridge cap runs the full length at the peak, and gutters (optional for single-span) can be fitted at the eaves. Roof pitch is adjustable from 20° to 35°, allowing optimization for snow shedding (steeper pitch) or material efficiency (shallower pitch). All connections are bolted with galvanized hardware; no field welding required.

Roof Design — The Defining Characteristic. The gable roof offers three advantages over an arched profile. First, the roof pitch is independently adjustable — it can be steepened for heavy-snow regions or flattened for mild climates, without changing the side wall height. Second, the flat roof planes are naturally suited to rigid covering materials (polycarbonate panels, glass) that cannot be bent to an arch curve — an arched tunnel is effectively limited to film, while a pinnacle greenhouse accepts film, PC, and glass on both roof and walls. Third, the central ridge provides a natural mounting point for ridge ventilation, the most effective position for hot-air exhaust.
Interior Space — Maximum Usable Volume. The rectangular cross-section is the practical advantage of the pinnacle form. With vertical side walls and a peaked roof, the greenhouse offers:· Full standing height from wall to wall — no crouching at the edges· A high ridge point (3.5–6.0m) suitable for tall crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers grown vertically) and hanging baskets· Roof truss lower chords that serve as attachment points for suspended irrigation lines, grow lights, shade systems, and heating pipes — no additional support structure needed· A rectangular floor plan that simplifies bench layout, aisle spacing, and equipment positioningThis space efficiency makes the pinnacle greenhouse particularly well suited to operations where every square meter must generate revenue.
-
Covering Flexibility. Because the roof and walls are flat planes rather than curved surfaces, the pinnacle greenhouse accepts the full range of greenhouse covering materials:
· Film (150–200 micron PE/PO/EVA): lowest cost, good light transmission, standard for vegetable production· Polycarbonate hollow sheet (4–10mm): better insulation and impact resistance, ideal for cold climates and display greenhouses· Glass (4–5mm horticultural): maximum light transmission and longevity, premium appearance, suitable for research and retail· Side walls: independently selectable — film for cost, PC for insulation, color steel for cold-climate heating efficiency, or glass for premium applicationsThis flexibility allows the same structural frame to be configured for a budget vegetable operation or a high-end research facility.
- Structural Performance. The gable roof distributes snow load to the eaves and columns, and the truss system provides efficient load transfer. Steeper roof pitches (30°+) shed snow readily. Wind resistance is up to 130 km/h with standard specifications; the flat roof planes have a slightly higher wind pressure coefficient than a curved arch, so reinforced options are recommended for high-wind regions. Snow load resistance ranges from 0.25–0.40 kN/m² depending on truss specification and roof pitch.
- Trade-Offs. Two considerations. First, the truss-framed gable roof is more material-intensive than a simple bent-pipe arch, resulting in approximately 15–25% higher frame cost than a comparable single-span arch tunnel. Second, the flat roof planes present a larger wind-facing surface than a curved profile, requiring attention to wind bracing and anchoring in exposed locations.
- Integrated Systems. The structure supports the full range of greenhouse automation: ridge ventilation (rack-and-pinion), side ventilation (roll-up or hinged), internal/external shading (30%–85%), heating (hot-water boiler, unit heater, radiant floor), drip or spray fertigation, multi-zone environmental control with remote app access, supplemental LED/HPS lighting, CO₂ enrichment, and rolling benches or hydroponic growing systems.
Who It's For. Vegetable growers requiring full vertical space for trellised crops; commercial flower producers needing uniform bench layout; seedling nurseries; research and educational facilities; retail and display greenhouses; and any operation where the flexibility to choose film, polycarbonate, or glass covering on the same frame is valuable.
