Venlo Greenhouse

Venlo Greenhouse

The benchmark of modern greenhouse engineering — originating from the Dutch greenhouse hub of Venlo, this small-roof glasshouse sets the standard for light transmission, structural precision, and longevity. Each main span contains multiple 3.2m small gable roofs glazed with 4-8mm tempered glass or 4-16mm polycarbonate hollow sheet, supported by slender aluminum alloy profiles that minimize shading. The result is a light transmission rate of up to 90%+ (glass) or 75–85% (PC) — combined with factory-prefabricated aluminum/steel construction, rack-and-pinion ridge ventilation on every small roof, and a service life of 20+ years. The preferred choice for high-end floriculture, premium vegetable production, research, and commercial display.

Product Overview — The Dutch Standard for Light and Precision

The PONSUNO Venlo Greenhouse is the most widely adopted large-scale greenhouse type worldwide. Its design maximizes light through three engineering choices: 3.2m small roof spans, slender aluminum glazing bars (instead of heavy steel purlins), and high-transmission covering (glass or polycarbonate). It is the global standard against which other large-scale glasshouses are measured.
  • Structure & Materials. The load-bearing frame uses hot-dip galvanized steel (275g/m² zinc coating) for columns, trusses, and bracing. The roof glazing system — bars, caps, gutters, vent frames — uses extruded aluminum alloy, lightweight and corrosion-free. All components are factory-prefabricated and bolted/clipped on site; no field welding.
  • Roof Design. Each main span (6.4m / 8m / 9.6m / 12.8m) contains two or more 3.2m small gable roofs (~0.8m high, 22–25° pitch). The short span allows slender aluminum bars, minimizing shading. Each small roof has its own ridge vent for zone-by-zone control. Multiple gutters provide excellent drainage.
  • Light Transmission Core Advantage. Three factors deliver industry-leading light:
    · 4mm tempered glass: 90%+ transmission, full PAR spectrum — for high-light crops and maximum yield
    · Polycarbonate (4–16mm): 75–85% transmission, better insulation and impact resistance — for cold climates and hail-prone regions
    · Slender aluminum bars + no intermediate purlins: minimal structural shading
Glass Venlo greenhouses deliver 5–15% more light than polycarbonate or film structures; polycarbonate Venlo greenhouses reduce heating demand by 20–40% vs. single-layer glass.
  • Ventilation. Ridge vent on both sides of every small roof, rack-and-pinion driven. Total ventilation area up to 20–30% of floor area — among the highest of any greenhouse type. Operable independently per bay or zone. Side ventilation optional.
  • Covering Options. The glazing system accepts both glass and polycarbonate:
    · Glass (high-light): 90%+ transmission, premium appearance, 20+ year life
    · Polycarbonate (insulation): 75–85% transmission, better insulation/impact resistance, 10–15 year life
    · Double glazing: maximum insulation for extreme cold
    · Side walls: glass / PC / color steel / film — independently selectable
  • Structural Performance. Wind resistance up to 130–150 km/h; snow load 0.30–0.50 kN/m². Reinforced options available for high-wind/high-snow regions.
  • Trade-Offs. Higher capital cost than film structures. Single-layer glass has lower insulation than PC or double-film — mitigated by choosing PC covering, double glazing, or thermal screens. Integrated Systems. Full range available: ridge + side ventilation, internal/external shading (30–85%), thermal screens, heating, drip/spray fertigation, multi-zone environmental control, supplemental lighting, CO₂ enrichment, rolling benches/hydroponics.
Who It's For. High-end floriculture (roses, orchids), premium vegetable production (tomatoes, peppers), research institutions, retail/display greenhouses, cold-climate growers (with PC covering), and long-term capital investment projects.
